Hi Garrick

I wouldn't worry about which book you read first, most of us came across WS in the same way(blowing the dust off an interesting looking book.) Anyway each book is an adventure in it's own right, and that is why we love 'em!

I agree with monsoon, I doubt anyone managed to pick up the first in a series as their first WS book!

We seem to be getting quite a few members with character names, wish I thought of that! I think we have a Ramon registered too...wonder when we'll get a Lostris or Taita?

I like the modern covers to be honest, they look good when together on my book shelf!

OK, my turn to get up on stage and introduce myself.

(checks that hair is in place and that pants are zipped, and moves up to microphone)

My name is Darren. I'm a Sydneysider (New South Wales, Australia) who became a WS fan late last year.

On and off since my teens, though, I had tried getting into WS's fiction. I started several of his novels, and even completed The Dark Of The Sun back in the early 2000s, but they never grabbed me at the time.

Late last year, though, I tried The Power Of The Sword - and finally, I became hooked on WS. Thus, for the past twelve months or so, I have read (and re-read) most of his works - I like most of them a lot, and they fired an interest in southern Africa that led me to other writers (both fiction and non-fiction) about the region.

I found this forum via the WS entry at Wikipedia.

Feel free to post around in all the threads, and make a new one, if you like, about the other authors who write about Southern Africa.

I'm a self-confessed book worm, and always need more feeding :lol:

And unfortyunately I have to admit to being an Australian Rugby fan. WSI you wont understand my joke - it relates to the Australian football team just being thrashed by Wales - and other Northern teams.

don't dwell on that. I even like jokes I'm not able to understand. The explanation makes it somewhat funnier. ;-)

but since you brought it up, i very much enjoyed Wales beating Australia (who don't seem to be the team they used to be.) Was a very exciting game with both teams playing atacking rugby.

I think it's going to be a really open competion - any one of ten teams could win it.

I think it`ll be down to which team has the least injuries to be honest. An England Vs Germany final would be awesome though!

Oh and hello WSI btw, we've had quite a few discussions but I havn't said "Hi" yet!

I for one can not wait for the World Cup. Congratulations to Australia for qualifying for the 1st time in their history. (better than Wales this time :oops:

I think its going to be special with so many teams able to win it, But Brazil have to be the favourites. With Argentina and England close behind followed by Italy and Germany. I'll be supporting whever plays england :o
