Suggestions

Postby Matbow » Wed Nov 16, 2005 2:08 pm

As this forum is getting more popular I thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone has any suggestions as to where we should aim to go in the future.

Do other author forums have any features that would work here? Do you think a new forum/category would be good? Should we have a whole Wilbur Smith website with the forum being only a part of it?

Please let me know if you think of anything - there's no time limit! You can either post a reply on this thread or PM me with any ideas.

Thanks!

Matt

How about a newsletter?

It can have WS news and events. Also reading recommendations, essays. I think it will create a sense of community for the forum. Also we can have forum members submit their contributions in the form of articles, reviews you name it!

Would it be possible to have a feature where you could see who has read which book(s), and which book(s) a member has read.

Maybe have 31 small boxes under the avatar. Each box representing one book.

nice idea...being more detailed, each small box has the picture of the book the person has read under their avatar. So you can see straight away what books the user has read, that would be cool

Great idea, but not possible without a major rework of the coding behind the forum software :(

Lemmy think about alternatives that do the same sorta thing...

On the same topic. Could we just have just a line of text maybe under the location to enter the name of the book we are currently reading? Whereas is Wilbur or not.

Now that I *should* be able to do...

Maybe we could solve this by having pictures of the books we've read in the signature field. The book I am currently reading is in my avatar.

Perhaps this will clog the forum with images though...

Or maybe we can have the list of Wilbur Smith books we have read on our profiles and the book we are currently reading below the avatar.

I couldn't work out how to have all the pictures in my sig so what i've done is just put a list of all the books and the ones i've read are in bold the ones i've not yet read are normal. Easy enough! [b4]

Let me know if it's a bit annoying though! i will change it

Maybe use smaller font?

Otherwise a good idea!

"Currently reading" feature is now installed and can be edited in your profile. Please watch out for any glitches in the forum...

^ ditto I like it too. Awfully tempted though to put in a funny one. You know, like Yellow River by I.P. Daley - still thinking about it.

A somewhat superfluous function in my view, as in no time at all most peoples input will be outdated because they have forgotten or can't be bothered to update.
Mind you we could have one for favourite tv show, favourite rock group, favourite colour, favourite animal and what we are having for tea tonight!!
But alas i am forgetting what topics are for.
While a tiger eyed its prey and an eagle raged in a thunderous sky a river of darkness fell upon a burning sun and the wolf cried tis a time to die, thus did the angels weep as power and triumph in those golden eyes did creep.
